COVID-19 Plans

Many of the modern surnames in the dictionary can be traced back to Britain and Ireland.

Dave 'DOC' Plotsky coached baseball in Sherwood Park from 1980 to 2001. Dave, as he was known in the baseball circles, was a huge proponent of house league. In the eighties, all players played house league and rep teams were formed later as the season progressed. With about 1000 participants in Sherwood Park Minor Baseball in the early eighties, Dave coached both house league and rep teams.
His philosophy was to give equal playing time to all participants. He kept his own charts and didn't rely on memory. He was highly competitive and a positive motivator, always teaching and preparing his players for a higher level the following season. He had excellent success as a coach as his teams won three provincial championships between 1986 and 1991.
For years, Dave was a valued member of Baseball Alberta, representing Sherwood Park on various committees.

He received four major awards as presented by the association:
1996 - received The Presidents Award
1997 - received award for Outstanding Service to Amateur Baseball and the 3M Coaches
2001 - awarded a life membership in appreciation of dedication to the promotion of Alberta Baseball
On August 2, 2007, Dave was inducted into the Strathcona County Millennium Place Sports Wall of Recognition for being an active volunteer both locally and provincially with minor baseball. 'The Wall of Recognition celebrates the achievements of those individuals who have excelled in sports as athletes and builders, thereby contributing to a high standard of sports development in our community.'
It is for these reasons, that we honour him! Sherwood Park Minor Baseball hosts the Dave 'Doc' Plotsky Memorial Tournament for competitive teams from 11U AA to 18U AA. Players come from across Alberta and other provinces to play in this special event. Whether you are a player or a spectator, this tournament is entertaining for all!
