What are considered vocational studies?
You may, for example, receive support for business studies in Denmark, vocational studies (YH) or municipal adult education (komvux) in Sweden.
All students receive basic support and some also receive additional loans for school fees.
Most students receive two different types of loans for studies in the Nordic region. Basic support, as well as an additional loan for school fees if you have to pay tuition fees.
All students can receive basic support, which is what most people call a student loan. Basic support is a loan, not a grant, but up to 40 per cent of this may be converted to a grant if you live away from your parents, complete your programme of education and have income and assets below the set limits.
If you have to pay tuition fees to your school, you may be eligible for a loan to cover these fees, up to a maximum amount.
You must apply for support each year
You must apply for study support each year. If something happens during your studies, such as dropping out before your examinations or wanting to change your programme of education, you will need to log in and let us know.
Application deadlines
You must have a study place before applying, and you may apply no earlier then mid-May. The final deadline for applying is
- 15 November for the entire year or just the autumn semester
- 15 March for the spring semester
You must submit documentation when you have completed your studies
Because we do not receive information about examinations passed or confirmation of how much you have paid in tuition fees from foreign educational institutions, you will need to submit this information. This means that you need to submit grade transcripts or degree certificates when you complete your studies, as well as confirmation of the tuition fees you have paid.
We will let you know when and how to submit such documentation. You must document academic progression in order for parts of your loan to be converted to a grant.
This page contains practical information about our online vocational study programs leading to Professional Degrees. An overview of the programs is at the bottom of the page.
Practical hands-on education
Vocational studies are in general more practically oriented compared to college or university studies.
Our studies have been developed in collaboration with our partners in the industry. Our teachers have solid experience from the industry and a practical approach to their field of study.
There will be a level of theoretical approach to some subjects that is required for an overall understanding of your study - but in essence you will be working with practical tasks and computer programs that are used in the industry today, in order to secure up-to-date skills and expertise.
A typical week as an online student
There is great freedom and flexibility being an online student. At the same time, it will also require discipline and planning skills. Studying full-time can be compared to having a full-time job. The study plan indicates a workload of 40 hours per week. If you need to combine studies with work, family or other obligations, part-time studies (20 hours per week) can be a good option.
Modules
Our online programs are organized in modules, which means that you´ll get access to new learning material each week (every second week for part-time students). Access is usually given on Mondays before 10 o´clock Central European Time. At the end of each module, there´ll typical be a test or an assignment.
Progression
At the start of your studies, you will get access to the progression plan for your study program. This includes weekly overview of modules, topics, projects, submission deadlines and vacations. It is a good planning tool to use through the study.
Studies in English
Our studies are in English for all students, as we have both Norwegian and international teachers and industry experts. This means that content, communication and assignments are mainly in English.
It does not mean that you must be able to speak fluent English, but you must be able to understand and communicate.
Further studies
Most of our study program can be combined with other relevant programs in a way that will strengthen your position in the industry. For example, you can combine UX design with front end development, graphic design or digital marketing. You can also combine network and IT security with a third year at our collaborative university, University of South Wales, to obtain an international bachelor's degree.
Bachelor's degrees abroad
Noroff cooperates with several international Universities. After completing a two-year vocational program at Noroff you can for most programs apply directly into the third year of a bachelor's degree in England, Australia, Wales or South Africa. You can find more information about the bachelor’s degrees abroad here.
