Many parents usually prefer shopping for their kid's shoe online as children tend to be whiny and weepy in the shoe aisle. As advantageous as shopping online can be the downside of this is that you can't try them on your kids before buying them.
This guide is aimed at making it easier for parents who prefer shopping for kids shoes online so that they can get it right the first time.
How to Measure Your Kid's Feet
Measure the foot of your kid from the heel to the longest toe using a tape measure. This is your child's shoe size. Differences in length can happen that is why you should always measure both feet.
A 6mm difference is quite normal but it is important to consider this difference when buying the shoes. You can download and print the measure kids shoe size PDF to be sure about your kids' shoe size.
Sizes vary from brand to brand so shoe sizes should be used as an approximate especially when shoe shopping for smaller kids.

Kids Shoe Principles
Don't buy too small shoes
Do not allow your kids to wear shoes that are too small for their feet regardless of their age.
Kids' feet are still growing and developing and it is important they wear the right type of shoes during childhood as not doing so might result in adult foot problems.
Measure both feet
Always measure your kids' feet while they are standing as this affects the size of the feet, only on a few occasions will the left and right foot is the same size. The longer foot should be the shoe size that should be bought.
When is it time to buy
The easiest way to know when it is time to buy new shoes for your kids is when their shoes leave less than 0.5 inches of space for the feet when buying new shoes ensure that you leave at least 0.7 inches of free space to give room for the feet to move.
Buy soft shoe material
Ensure that your kid's shoes are made from soft materials that allow their feet to breathe. For everyday shoes, rubber shoes are not suitable.
How long does kids shoes last?
Shoe sizes usually only last for about 5 months for children aged between 3 and 6 after which they would require the next size up.
Compared to Women US to EU sizes you will find it more difficult to predict kids shoe sizes when shopping online as brands are different and their feet are constantly growing.
What Type of Shoe is Right for my Child?
Stiff Shoes
Apart from small shoes, stiff shoes also hinder the growth of your kid's foot.
Kid's feet are very soft and malleable which is why their feet can fit in almost every shoe.
When their feet are forced into shoe it could damage their feet resulting in bending feet and other postural defects.
Free space should be left for their feet to move so their footsteps are not hindered.
Footbed
The best footbed suitable for kid's shoe is those made from leather and natural materials.
It is the sole of the foot that allows the foot to breathe and prevent it from sweating.
On the other hand, synthetic materials make kid's feet sweat and this stands in the way of their foot health.
Junior Shoe Size Chart
Apart from freedom of movement, air is also needed in order for a child's foot to grow healthily.
